Car catches fire after Fulton driver swerves to miss deer

Two Fulton residents had minor and moderate injuries after the car they were in overturned and burst into flames when the driver swerved to miss a deer, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

About 4:30 a.m. Regina D. Clayton, 43, of Fulton was driving on U.S. Highway 54, about one-tenth of a mile north of County Road 110 in Callaway County just north of Fulton, when she swerved to miss a deer. Her Dodge Neon went off the right side of the road, struck an embankment then overturned, according to the patrol's preliminary accident report. The car then caught on fire, the report stated.

Regina Clayton and her passenger, Lori M. Clayton, 40, of Fulton, were both taken via ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia for minor and moderate injuries, according to the highway patrol.
