City identifies manhole, cracked pipes as factors in inflow, infiltration

November 8th, 2013 in News

The company contracted by the city of Fulton hasn't finished its closed-circuit video inspection of the city's sewer lines, but city officials have already identified two sources of excess water overworking the sewer plant.

City Engineer Greg Hayes said that VSI&C, the firm performing cleaning and video inspection of sewer mains, has returned to its Boliver office for the following week, but its inspection has already revealed a problematic manhole near Second Street that admitted large amounts of rainwater and runoff.

"We don't know what's causing it - they flushed out the section from the roundabout to Second multiple times and are still getting significant mud and gravel," Hayes said, "That tells us it's a significant problem there."

The find joins a compromised sewer pipe off Seventh Street that city crews found shortly before the video inspection work began.
