With school ending next week and summer just around the corner, Fulton's Oestriech Swimming Pool opens for the season at noon on Saturday.
In addition to regular open swim hours - noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday - Sharlene McArtor, recreation programmer for Fulton Parks and Recreation, said the pool's season also includes junior lifeguard training, swim lessons and Aquacise classes.
The junior lifeguard classes, which will meet from 9-1 a.m. Monday through Friday June 3-14, will include instruction in water safety, facility operations, in-water rescues, CPR, First Aid, teamwork and leadership skills. Students ages 11-15 must be able to swim 50 yards using the crawl or breaststroke, attend all training sessions and volunteer two hours per week at the pool. Junior guards will be provided with a volunteer staff t-shirt and whistle. The registration deadline is Friday, with a registration fee of $30.
The registration deadline for the Aquacise water aerobics class is Monday, June 3. The class meets from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays June 3 through Aug. 8. Participants will learn exercises designed to improve flexibility, tone muscles and improve cardiovascular health. There is a $50 cost for the summer.
