Summer is often the slowest time of year for donations to SERVE's food bank, but thanks to two recent campaigns, this year the pantry enters its "dry season" with a bit of a cushion.
On May 11, the local drive for the National Letter Carriers' annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive generated more than 9,000 pounds of food and $600 in donations in Callaway County, with more still trickling in, according to Callaway Action Network program assistant Katie Davis.
This outpouring of generosity comes just one week after the end of the annual Feinstein Challenge - in which the Feinstein Foundation matches all donations, pledges and cash donated to SERVE during the months of March and April. This year, SERVE collected 10,066 pounds of food and more than $9,100 in cash donation thanks to efforts from supporters such as Callaway Boy Scouts, VisionArts, the United Church of Christ, C&R Market, The Callaway Bank and local elementary schools.
