Callaway Co. bank robbery suspect found guilty

A Jefferson City man charged with robbing Bank Star One in New Bloomfield in October 2012 was found guilty following a court trial, Thursday.

Gary Coleman, 49, was charged with one count of second-degree robbery.

His sentencing is scheduled for next month.

Coleman fled to Texas after the robbery and was eventually caught in San Antonio this past January.

Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane said the airing of still images and security video from the robbery by local media gave them tips to determine Coleman was the suspect.

According to Crane, Coleman has two prior felony convictions: One in 1993 in Boone County for possession of a controlled substance and one in 1999 for forgery, also out of Boone County.

Because of those two prior convictions, Coleman is facing extended time in prison on top of his sentence for the robbery.
