The City of Fulton will be seeking bids on a number of asphalt overlay projects for 2013.
At their meeting Tuesday, the council agreed to send out for bids in 10 days for asphalt overlay on 20 streets throughout town at an estimated $492,000. The cost would include putting asphalt mix in place, milling, installing manhole frames and other upgrades.
City Administrator Bill Johnson noted that the expenditures would be partially covered by recouped county tax funds; as a first class Missouri county, 25 percent of county road and bridge tax dollars collected within city limits must be returned to the city for like projects.
City Engineer Greg Hayes said that though it would be up to the contractors the time frame in which they completed the project. He still hoped to enforce upon them getting each individual street done in a timely manner.
"We don't want them to come into town and do the milling, and then 30-60 days later come back and do the asphalt," Hayes said. "We want them to get it done all at once, that way there aren't raised manholes for an extended period of time or things like that."
