Leadership Callaway to draw young leaders

Westminster College and the Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a leadership program entitled " Youth Leadership Callaway" from July 15-19 for students entering seventh, eighth or ninth grade. The program will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the entire week.

Topics that will be covered will include personal leadership training, health and safety, community business and economics and social awareness and service. Students will have the opportunity to improve their communication skills, meet community leaders and meet fellow young leaders.

Students will have a chance to visit the fire department and the police department, take part in a multitude of team building activities and go through a fitness workshop at the YMCA.

"We always try to implement service events each day of the week," said Margie Lechner, an eight-year coordinator of the program.

In the past, the group has volunteered at Our House, the Headstart program, Clothes Cupboard and the SERVE, Inc. food pantry. Last year, students potted flowers at a local church and had the opportunity to spend time with the elderly.
