SERVE collects more than five tons of food for Full-Ton Challenge

For the past two months SERVE, The Callaway Bank and C&R Market have joined forces to collect one ton of food or the monetary equivalent as part of the Full-Ton Challenge.

The challenge ran for the first time this past March and April to correspond with the Feinstein Challenge, in which the Feinstein Foundation matches all donations, pledges and cash donated to SERVE in that period.

This year, SERVE collected 10,066 pounds of food, in addition to cash donations-more than five times their original goal of one ton of food.

The Callaway Bank played a major role in collecting donations for SERVE.

"In every department in the bank we had food towers going out at our islands in the lobby (and) we had food donation areas," said Taija Segelhorst, vice president Fulton area branch manager at The Callaway Bank.

C&R market also helped collect food items by selling groceries at cost for the challenge.

"We are trying to help the Callaway Bank get to one ton of groceries and we wanted to be able to do that in the best way possible," said Chris Garrett, C&R store manager. "Of course, being a grocery store we are the ones with the groceries and we always want to partner up with any type of community event with The Callaway Bank anytime we can."

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
