After a decade of organizing the Fulton Street Fair and watching it grow into the modern institution that it is, Tom Harris and Melissa Siegel are ready to find new feet to fill their shoes.
The Street Fair Committee chairpersons have both announced that, though they plan to remain involved in some way, the 2013 fair will be the last one over which they preside.
"I really kind of got kicked into it, and I really found I enjoyed it, but after 10 years it's just kind of time to settle down and go on to do something else," said Harris. "Last summer, Melissa and I couldn't find any (new) chairs, but she said "I think this will be our last year, so we'll go out with a bang.'"
Harris, and Siegel have been involved with the Street Fair Committee since its inception in 2004 before eventually becoming the chairpersons of the event. Harris said that the first year was the most memorable for him, when then-chairs Bob Sterner and Kalene Griffith named Harris the treasurer.
"They jumped right in and made it happen. It was still up in the air whether the thing was going to fly, and it went pretty well; I think it exceeded everyone's expectations," said Harris.
