Five people homeless after fire near Readsville

A five-member Callaway County family is homeless after a Tuesday evening fire destroyed their home on Deer Haven Lane off Route O near Readsville.

Jeff Wallendorff, chief of the South Callaway Fire Protection District, said no one was injured in the blaze and the home was a total loss.

Wallendorf said 19 volunteer firefighters responded to the residential fire.

Wallendorff said volunteers from the North Callaway Fire Protection District also provided mutual aid to the South Callaway Fire Protection District to battle the fire.

The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter is assisting the family.

The Red Cross provided financial resources to the family for immediate emergency needs to purchase food, infant supplies, clothing and a temporary stay in a motel.

The Red Cross also provided comfort kits containing personal hygiene items.
