At about midnight Friday, a deputy attempted to stop an SUV driven by Keith Allen Smart, 36, on State Road C for speeding. The vehicle sped away at 93 mph in a 50 mph zone, attempting to elude the deputy.

A chase down two county roads outside of Fulton followed, with Smart eventually losing control of the vehicle on County Road 405, There he reportedly further resisted arrest and was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

He faces charges of speeding, failure to drive on the right half of the road way, driving in a careless and imprudent fashion, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, two counts of resisting arrest, driving while revoked, DWI and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

After arriving at the jail, deputies say Smart made "numerous threats" to the life of the arresting deputy, further saying he recently had aimed a scoped rifle at the deputy and should have killed him then. Smart also reportedly threatened to blow up the courthouse and kill a judge. Sheriff's office officials could not be reached for comment Saturday.

Smart is currently held at the Callaway County Jail on a $30,000 cash-only bond. According to online court records, he has had several charges or arrests from incidents stemming from moving violations, domestic assault and possession of marijuana.
