The Callaway County Commission has awarded bids totaling $253,000 on replacement equipment for the county's Road and Bridge Department and $85,000 for replacement vehicles for the Sheriff's Office.
"This is part of our normal replacement schedules for equipment and vehicles," said Callaway County Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann.
Jungermann said the most expensive purchase was a new road grader. "Road equipment is costly to replace but eventually equipment must be replaced instead of continuing to repair it," Jungermann said.
The winning low bidder was TriState Construction Equipment of Ashland with a bid of $139,000 for a new John Deere road grader after trade-in on another county grader that needed to be replaced.
The Callaway County Commission also approved the purchase of a new dump truck for the Road and Bridge Department. The low bidder was MHC Kenworth of Columbia was awarded the contract with a low bid of $84,000 for a Kenworth dump truck.
