The Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society and Museum is turning to the people of Callaway County to help it preserve the county's oral history for posterity.
The society is in the early stages of an oral history project titled "Capturing Callaway," and is looking for stories ranging on topics from the local homefront during World War II to working at Harbison-Walker or the construction of the nuclear plant.
Museum curator Barb Huddleston said the project would kick off with a workshop 1-4 p.m. July 24 at the Callaway Electric Co-op for those who wish to interview interesting subjects. The seminar will be hosted by Jeff Corrigan, oral historian with the State Historical Society of Missouri in Columbia.
"We've been talking about it for a long time and it's just a matter of getting it organized and going. I talked to Gary Kremer (Director of the State Historical Society) and he said, "We can do a workshop for you and cover all different aspects of it,'" Huddleston said.
Callaway Historical Society President Susan Krumm said the workshop would focus on interviewing skills, but the interviews themselves would be an ongoing project throughout the year.
