Westminster basketball player shot to death

Westminster College men's basketball coach Matt Mitchell used the words "upbeat" and "passionate" to describe Tony Woods.

Woods - a redshirt sophomore point guard with the Blue Jays - was shot to death early Saturday morning in his hometown of Memphis, Tenn.

According to a report on the Memphis Commercial Appeal's website, the 21-year-old Woods was shot after attempting to enter a Jeep Cherokee occupied by two males outside the drive-thru window of a Memphis McDonald's at approximately 3:45 a.m. Saturday.

Woods was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into his death is ongoing.
