Well Read Books and six local artists are hoping to give the Callaway County Humane Society a boost this year.

Fulton's downtown bookstore is hosting a raffle for pieces from each artist. At $3 per ticket, Well Read's owner Danielle Warren hopes to raise $2,500 for the Humane Society.

Well Read has held events both to benefit the humane society and spotlight local art in the past. For Warren, whose downtown Fulton storefront is often adorned by the used bookstore's resident cat J.J., such things were a perfect fit.

"We feel strongly about supporting all the creative arts - writing as well as visual arts, and we always viewed ourselves as an outlet for the community," Warren said. "That's one way we can give support to the local people."

The raffle will feature donated pieces from area artists Deborah Lee, Jane Mudd, Wayne Legge, George Tutt and Jaime Carey-Humphreys, many of which are watercolors or pen and ink pieces of cats or local buildings.
