Callaway Youth Expo kicks off Wednesday

Inaugural event spotlights youth in rural, other activities

July 5th, 2013 in News

Organizers of Callaway County's first Youth Expo hope to start with a bang next week at the Auxvasse Lions Club Park and Arena.

Festivities kick off Wednesday, July 10, with the 4-H royalty contest at 10 a.m. Conference judging will continue throughout the first day with a performance by the Edwards Family Band at 7 p.m. The event gets in full swing with vendors, events and group showcases July 11-13, with the livestock and ham sale putting an end on the expo's first year at 7 p.m. Saturday.

"It'll be interesting to see how the community accepts it and receives it," Expo Chairman Carson Humphreys said. "We hope people come out and see the kid's projects, and see what other groups like the Scouts are doing in the community ... and what the youth of Callaway are trying to accomplish."

The expo was organized this year by members of the community who felt they wanted an event that showcased the youth of Callaway County more than the Kingdom of Callaway County Fair. Humphreys noted the expo will feature the return of many familiar fair exhibits and events, such as the Country Ham Breakfast and 4-H livestock and bucket calf shows.
