No one injured in nursing home fire

No one was injured and Fulton firemen quickly extinguished a water heater fire reported at Fulton Nursing & Rehab, 1510 N. Bluff St., shortly before 10 p.m. Monday.

Fulton Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Coffelt said Tuesday an alarm reported the fire at 9:59 p.m. Monday to the Fire Department.

Coffelt said when firemen were on the way to the fire they were informed by the emergency radio dispatcher that employees of the nursing home reported smoke was showing in the building and the occupants were being evacuated.

When firemen arrived they found no exterior smoke but inside the structure they located smoke in the third wing of four wings in the building. "We saw smoke coming from a utility closet where an electric water heater was housed. The door was locked and no key was available so we forced the door open and saw the water heater was on fire," Coffelt said.
