Humane Society unveils "Beat the Heat' cat neuter and spay program

January 10th, 2013 in News

With the help of four local vets, careful budgeting and a successful Guardian Angel program, the Callaway County Humane Society will be kicking off its "Beat the Heat' neuter and spay program for the county's pet, stray and feral cat population.

The drive runs through February and March, offering spays and neuters for a discounted price of $20. County residents may call Callaway Vet, Midwest Vet, Millersburg Vet or All Paws Behavioral Center to schedule the procedure for February or March and mention "Beat the Heat' for the rate.

CCHS President Sandy Corbet said that the Humane Society hopes to fix 200 cats in the county, and the drive should help make the surgery more affordable for people looking after multiple critters.

"Two hundred cats in reality is probably a drop in the bucket, but I think if we do this and it's successful this year, and we do it a few years in a row, we will see a significant drop in the (stray and feral) population," said Corbet.
