Mexico man arrested in Fulton for sixth DWI

Fulton Police arrested a Mexico, Mo., man for driving while intoxicated who was traveling in the wrong direction on U.S. 54 in Fulton early Saturday.

Police were notified at 1:51 a.m. Saturday by a Callaway County Ambulance Service paramedic that a Chevrolet truck was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 54 in Fulton.

Fulton Police were able to get the truck stopped on U.S. 54 just north of Route HH.

Sam A. Cooper, 41, Mexico, Mo., was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated as a chronic offender, felony driving while his driver's license was revoked and several other traffic violations.

Cooper is in Callaway County Jail with his total bond for the various charges set at $29,558.

Fulton Police reported the arrest was Cooper's sixth for driving while intoxicated. He also has three prior convictions for driving while his license was revoked. He is not eligible to get his driver's license back until the year 2020.

Police reported Cooper also is on probation for felony driving while intoxicated as an aggravated offender.
