Cuneio, Wildcats race past Chamois, to play for fifth place at Tipton

Senior forward Alex Cuneio registered 22 points as the third-seeded New Bloomfield Wildcats powered past No. 7 Chamois 61-47 in the consolation semifinals of the 75th-annual Tipton Tournament late Wednesday night.

New Bloomfield (2-1) opened up a 33-16 halftime advantage after outscoring Chamois 16-9 in the second quarter. The Pirates were able to pull within 39-30 entering the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats secured the victory by outscoring Chamois 22-17 over the final 8 minutes.

Cuneio was one of three players to score in double figures for New Bloomfield. Sophomore forward Leo Ramirez recorded a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, while sophomore guard Grant Nichols had 13 points and nine assists.

Junior forward Brady Wilder added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.

New Bloomfield will play either No. 5 seed Climax Springs or No. 8 Bunceton for fifth place at 9 tonight.
