Marsha Millard always spends a late September Friday in the Fulton Walmart parking lot.

Sometimes she is helping distribute bratwurst and hamburgers. Sometimes she is greeting people and handing out informational flyers. Sometimes she is showing off old cars. Always, she is helping to support the Callaway County United Way.

Millard is one of many soldiers in the small army that makes the United Way's annual Radiothon - to be held Sept. 27 this year - a perennially successful start to the organization's annual fundraising drive.

"It's a rewarding experience," Millard said of her 13 years volunteering at the Radiothon. "Supporting the United Way is an investment in our community where I live and work."

United Way Director Kathy Richey Liddle said she is in need of about 25 more Marsha Millards to help meet the goal of raising $100,000 on Sept. 27.

Richey Liddle said there are various two-hour shifts available to help with the food booth, the auto show and the greeting table in particular.

"This really is a fun event, with lots of fun things to do," she said.
