Library announces One Read programming

Daniel Boone Regional Library's One Read program typically offers a variety of opportunities for community involvement and discussion, and this year is no different.

The 2013 One Read selection is "The Ruins of Us" by Keija Parssinen, in which the main character, Rosalie, is an American expatriate whose 20-year marriage to wealthy Saudi Abdullah al-Baylani is threatened when she learns he has taken a second wife.

With activities ranging from movie screenings and lectures to cultural immersions and children's art projects, members of the One Read Task Force in Callaway said there is something for everyone in this year's programming schedule.

Highlights include a screening of a documentary about a Qu'ran school for girls in Syria at William Woods University on Sept. 9; a discussion about American children raised abroad with the author on Sept. 16 and a similar discussion on Sept. 17 with Chamber of Commerce Director Claudia Starr - who has lived in the Middle East; an arts and crafts event at the Fulton Farmer's Market on Sept. 21; a lecture on Islam and family life on Sept. 23 and a cultural immersion experience at the library on Sept. 24 featuring Middle Eastern music, fashion and food led by Fulton resident Zahra Dashtaki - a native of Iran.

A full schedule of One Read programming in Fulton and Columbia will be available soon on the library website at www.dbrl.org, or on the One Read website at www.oneread.dbrl.org.
