Our House: Caring for Callaway's Homeless has seen a steady increase in need for its services over the past several months.
The organization's annual barbecue fundraiser on Aug. 25 will help Our House continue to provide those services.
Held from 4-7 p.m. in the parking lot of First Christian Church at the intersection of Seventh and Court streets, Our House Director Brad Sheppard said there are a couple of additions to this year's Rockin' Bouncin' BBQ to add more appeal to families.
"We're trying to have more for kids with a bounce house, face painting and balloon animals, and Project Hysteria will be playing again - they were popular last year," Sheppard said.
There also will be hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, chips and beverages for sale, with all proceeds to go to the Haven House and Wiley House homeless shelters.
"It's all about two bucks per item, so it's pretty reasonable," Sheppard said. "Last year we raised close to $2,500 so we're aiming for that again. If we can get that much or better, it would be great."
He said donations are particularly welcome after a busy summer.
"(Demand has been) steady, and at Wiley House we've definitely seen an increase all summer long," Sheppard said, noting he has seen a significant increase in the number of women visiting the overnight shelter. "We have eight beds for women, and many times all eight beds have been full."
