CCHS meets spay and neuter goal

April 25th, 2013 in News

Gabby, this 7-month-old kitten currently up for adoption through the Callaway County Humane Society, is one of more than 200 cats recently spayed or neutered through the CCHS' successful Beat the Heat campaign, which provided the procedures at a large discount through participating area vets.

By Sandy Corbet's reckoning, the Callaway County Humane Society spared 300 lives this month.

That's how many kittens she figures won't be born into Callaway's feral cat population this summer following their Beat the Heat program, which raised funds to provide spays and neuters for pet, stray and feral cats at a discounted price of $20. The program recently met its goal of 200 cats spayed and neutered; 97 of which were feral and stray.

"It's very encouraging that so many people came out and took advantage of that," said Corbet. The program partnered with area veterinarians to provide the procedures.
