William Woods University is hosting their first alumni show, opening Alumni Weekend on April 19. A dessert and champagne punch reception is scheduled for 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20. The show will run until May 17.
The featured artists include Patricia A. Behler '46, Cindy Logan '74, Paula Kientzel '00 and Bradley Prasuhn '09.
"This is our very first official alumni show, which I plan to make an annual event," said Jen Sain, coordinator of the Mildred Cox Gallery. "This show is a collaboration of professional and non-professional artists, sort of a sampling of the quality of work we should expect for future exhibits."
She added, "Shows will vary from year to year, featuring solo professional artists to multiple artists. I plan to exhibit this way to accommodate exhibitor's/alums needs. For instance, some alums may be considered professional practicing artists, with a large body of work, while others may practice fine art and have 10 to 20 pieces, but not enough to fill the gallery. Either way, I think the show will highlight specific talents of our alums."
This will be Fulton resident Prasuhn's first art show. Prasuhn does not have an art degree and did not start pursuing art until after he graduated from college. He says his methods are rather untraditional and he labels his style abstract-acrylic.
"I do some mixed medium with some newspaper and other things that I find," he said. "(I'm) pretty nontraditional. I don't paint on an easel. I usually just throw the canvas on the floor and paint and walk around it ... and whatever comes out comes out."
He is looking forward to seeing his work in an art show for the first time as well as learning from the other artists.
