Fulton woman hurt in U.S. 54 collision

An 85-year-old Fulton woman, Frances Dungan, was hospitalized Saturday morning after the car she was driving was hit in the side when she was attempting to cross U.S. 54 in Fulton.

Fulton Police reported the accident occurred at 10:12 a.m. Saturday when a 1988 Pontiac driven by Dungan as traveling west on Callaway County Road 306 and attempted to cross U.S. 54 in front of an eastbound 2011 Toyota van driven by Susan Mueth, 58, Fenton.

Mueth's van hit Dungan's vehicle just in front of the driver's door and then spun out of control into the median. The collision knocked Dungan's car around and it came to rest blocking both lanes of eastbound U.S. 54.

Dungan was trapped in the Pontiac and was rescued by Fulton firemen using hydraulic extraction tools known as the Jaws of Life.

With moderate injuries, Dungan was transported by Callaway County Ambulance Service to Callaway Community Hospital.

Police reported Mueth and a passenger in her vehicle, Laura Mueth, 29, Jefferson City, both declined medical treatment. The vehicle also contained an uninjured service dog.
