William Woods University students learned more about a potential career in law enforcement Thursday night from Lt. Andre Cook, chief of detectives at the Fulton Police Department.
Cook appeared as a speaker in the university's Alumni Speakers Series.
Cook last year earned a Bachelor's Degree from WWU by enrolling in an evening program for working adults.
Cook discussed his career in law enforcement to students, faculty and staff gathered for the event at the Tucker Dining Hall.
The Alumni speakers Series was established by Becky Stinson, WWU alumni relations director.
The program brings William Woods graduates to the campus to share their work and life experiences with current students.
Stinson said the Alumni Speakers Series was started to give students an opportunity to learn more about realities of careers and the job market.
The goal of the speakers series, Stinson said, is to make students aware of the many possibilities there are for open-minded students who are willing to take a job and work their way up.
"You learn," Stinson said, "from every job what you like and what you want. The ideal job envisioned may not actually be what you want. It's important to be open to possibilities."
