Bulldogs work to hit offensive stride

September 28th, 2012 in News

MOKANE - As the sun plunged behind a line of trees on the west edge of their practice field, the South Callaway Bulldogs' offense was in fast-forward mode.

South Callaway head coach Tim Rulo - who also serves as offensive coordinator - accelerated the process as the Bulldogs briskly jammed 50 plays into 23 minutes toward the end of their workout early Wednesday night.

"You saw today, we upped the intensity in practice," Rulo said afterward. "... We wanted to go super-fast because we wanted to challenge them to get better and think on their feet, and move around."

Rulo's impetus was South Callaway's enigmatic offensive showing last week in the Bulldogs' first loss of the season, 28-18 to unbeaten Tipton in a showdown between state-ranked teams in Mokane. South Callaway stunned the Cardinals at the outset, scoring on two of its first three possessions to build a 12-0 lead.
