The post office in Kindgom City may soon face restricted hours.

There are changes ahead for the Kingdom City Post Office.

To help determine just what those changes will be, the United States Postal Service sent out surveys to area residents and will be holding a public meeting at 3 p.m. on Oct. 16 at City Hall, located at 5846 Old Highway 40.

"We're not sure what will happen, but we're hoping for a great turnout," said Rhea Horstman, the officer in charge of the Kingdom City Post Office. "The survey is asking people what their preferences would be on hours, it gives them the options to keep the office open or conduct a discontinuance study or to change to a village post office in one of the local businesses."

Horstman said the Kingdom City location is one of those under review as part of the Postal Service's POST Plan. She said right now the Postal Service is leaning toward keeping the existing office open, but with a shortened six-hour day.

"The only way they would not is if the community has a strong preference for one of the other options," Horstman said.
