Westminster professor Cliff Cain (left) was named as the first Harrod-C. S. Lewis Professor of Religious Studies Tuesday during the opening day of the Westminster Symposium. The professorship was started by Sharon and Jim Harrod (center and right) as a way to give back to the university and "preserve faith as a viable part of academic life."

"Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil." -C. S. Lewis

Westminster College President Barney Forsythe invited a pair of special guests up on the stage during the opening session of the 2012 Westminster Symposium, Religious Experience in Global Society, Tuesday morning.

Once Jim and Sharon Harrod joined him on the stage, Forsythe announced that the couple will be funding a professorship in honor of famed writer, educator and theologian C. S. Lewis, the Harrod-C. S. Lewis Professor of Religious Studies.

"This person will be a leader among faculty and students ... and will eventually become the Harrod-C. S. Lewis endowed chair," Forsythe said. "This is a big deal and is happening purely out of the love Jim and Sharon have for Westminster College.
