Horstmeier's summer on diamond is productive

Surrounded by 60 or so other baseball players at the USSSA All-American Games in Kissimmee, Fla., Dalton Horstmeier couldn't help but be a little humbled.

The junior-to-be at Fulton High was one of 65 invited down to the four-day camp in August, vying for the chance to play for the USSA's High School Varsity team on an overseas baseball trip next summer.

"The feeling to get to play with kids from all over the country was crazy, because when you talk to them, you realize they're from Oregon and New Jersey and all corners of the nation," Horstmeier said.

The invitation was flattering enough. Being selected as one of the nine representatives for the team, which he was, was a whole other deal, though.
