Former Auxvasse Alderman George E. (Trey) Baumgartner, 31, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Callaway County Circuit Court and was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison on a variety of drug, burglary and forgery charges.
After his first arrest on Nov. 4, 2011, Baumgartner resigned his position as alderman in Auxvasse four days later.
Baumgartner was sentenced by Circuit Judge Gary Oxenhandler to eight years in prison after his guilty plea to selling methamphetamine to an undercover police officer in October of 2011.
The case was investigated by the Central Missouri MUSTANG drug task force.
Baumgartner also entered guilty pleas in a separate case to one count of burglary in the second degree and three counts of forgery for incidents occurring in October and November of 2011. He admitted in court he entered a residence in Auxvasse and stole a book of checks.
An investigation by the Callaway County Sheriff's Office revealed some of the checks had been cashed.
Baumgartner admitted he forged the checks and cashed them at two Fulton banks and at another business.
Baumgartner was sentenced to six years in prison on each of those offenses. Those sentences were imposed by the judge to run concurrently with the eight-year sentence for selling methamphetamine to an undercover police officer.
