Callaway County businesses and other state and national firms interested in providing services relating to construction of a small modular nuclear reactor at the Callaway Energy Center have been invited to attend a supplier summit meeting today.
The event, hosted by Westinghouse Electric Company and Ameren Missouri, will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Renaissance St. Louis Grand Hotel Marriott in St. Louis.
Callaway County Commissioner Gary Jungermann said he plans to attend the event along with Bruce Hackmann, executive director of the Fulton Area Development Corporation (FADC) and Doug Mertens, a member of the FADC board of directors.
Fulton Mayor LeRoy Benton planned to attend a preliminary meeting Monday evening with Ameren Missouri and Westinghouse officials.
Rep. Jeanie Riddle, R-Mokane, also plans to attend the events. Riddle said she is pleased that Westinghouse and Ameren Missouri have teamed up on the proposal to construct a small modular nuclear reactor at the Callaway Energy Center southeast of Fulton as a demonstration project for the nation.
"The joint Westinghouse and Ameren Missouri proposal for a federal grant has the backing of a consortium of electrical power providers - including Missouri rural electric cooperatives, along with private and public utilities - from throughout the state. This has greatly increased the potential for Missouri receiving the federal grant," Riddle said.
