Bulldogs resist distractions, reach District 6 semifinals

October 28th, 2012 in News

The state-ranked South Callaway Bulldogs were never in any particular trouble in Friday night's Class 2, District 6 opener against the Lutheran (St. Peters) Cougars.

Still, South Callaway head coach Tim Rulo expressed some concern about the Bulldogs' divided concentration.

South Callaway marked Senior Night festivities during halftime of the game, which had originally been moved to Thursday night but was then pushed back to Friday at Lutheran's request. On top of that, the Bulldogs played without their starting tailbacks - junior Garner Rudroff and sophomore Cory Hanger - because of minor injuries.

In the end, South Callaway was able to accomplish its objective of advancing. Backup tailbacks Smith Kemper and Mason Shoemaker combined for 128 yards rushing and three touchdowns as the No. 2 seed Bulldogs turned back No. 7 Lutheran 34-20.
