Wildcat scheme turns Hornets into different offensive animal

October 25th, 2012 in News

There's a lot one can point out when looking at the Fulton Hornets' recent surge. Timely defense, ball security and an overall decrease in crucial mistakes are just a few reasons.

But more than anything, Fulton is scoring points. After amassing no more than 14 in any of their first six games, the Hornets have scored at least 21 in each of their last three contests. A big reason has to be their success with the Wildcat offense.

Fulton debuted the scheme - featuring senior running back Jeff Allison taking the shotgun snap - in a 47-21 North Central Missouri Conference loss at Boonville on Oct. 5. One has to think the No. 3 seed Pirates will see even more of the Wildcat tonight when they host the No. 6 Hornets in the Class 3, District 7 opener (kickoff at 7).

The added offensive dimension has energized Fulton, which is averaging almost 340 total yards per game since showcasing the Wildcat.
