A Fulton man was arrested Friday following a reported burglary, Sgt. Sean Wisswell, of the Fulton Police Department, said Friday.

Joe Simms Jr., 51, was arrested for first-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Officers responded at 4:50 a.m. to the 100 block of Whitlow after receiving a report of a burglary in progress. Officers were told that while the homeowner had at one point held the suspect at gunpoint, the suspect had since fled the scene, Wisswell said.

Officers found signs of entry into the residence's basement and located burglary tools.

The suspect, identified as Simms, later was located and arrested, Wisswell said. He was brought to the Callaway County Jail and held on no bond.
