No. 10 Bulldogs stand up to Wildcats' challenge

October 21st, 2012 in News

There was no impassioned diatribe, no panic when the state-ranked South Callaway Bulldogs went to halftime tied with the Montgomery County Wildcats.

South Callaway has rarely trailed this season, but found itself down 7-0 in Friday night's regular-season finale after Montgomery County senior tailback Nick Martin slipped through a gap in the middle of the line and sped 66 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs were able to scramble back and pull even at the break. A blocked punt eventually led to senior quarterback Jason Kimminau's 10-yard touchdown pass to sophomore tailback Garner Rudroff with 49 seconds left in the half.

South Callaway appeared to take control in the third quarter behind a pair of Rudroff touchdowns, but the Wildcats refused to wither. It wasn't until sophomore safety Cory Hanger returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown with :40 to play in the game that the Bulldogs stowed away a hard-earned, 34-20 win over Montgomery County.
