At the Historic Preservation Commission's monthly meeting Tuesday, a mockup design for the planned historical markers along the Stinson Trail showcased a feature that was anything but historic.
The signs, designed by Fulton Public Information Officer Darin Wernig, would feature Quick Response (QR) codes to provide further information to interested hikers with smart phones.
Hikers could scan the specialized codes on their smart phones, which would then transfer them to a page on Fulton's website that would feature more information on that particular trail marker.
The signs would also feature a trail logo, photos of the site, maps and a brief history of the site along the trail. The codes would allow people to learn more than what can fit on the sign, and would also allow preservation commission members to update or change the information online without having to develop a new sign.
"Obviously we can't get much more information on the sign, but we can further delve into this (with QR codes)," said commission member Judy Schaneman. "We're working with Barb (Huddleston) at the County Historical Society in hashing out information."
