Wiley House, a building that provides emergency overnight shelter for the county's homeless adults, will not be closing after all.
Our House: Caring for Callaway's Homeless, the organization that operates Wiley House and the neighboring family-based shelter Haven House, announced plans late last month to close its doors Monday due to a lack of financial support.
Our House director Brad Sheppard said that thanks to two formerly paid staffers agreeing to work as volunteers, Wiley House would continue to provide its services for at least another month.
Sheppard said the volunteers are nightly shift monitors John Ladd and Warren Hollrah.
"It shows you that, to them, it's more than just a job," said Sheppard. "It's something that they really care about."
