Hornets could go long way with short passing game

October 5th, 2012 in News

Not much worked for the Fulton Hornets in their 42-0 North Central Missouri Conference loss to the Hannibal Pirates last week. Not much at all.

Fulton (0-6, 0-3 NCMC) was held to just 120 yards of total offense, including a season-low 38 yards passing as junior quarterback Joe Schlemeier connected on just 3-of-16 passes, his fewest completions in six games this season.

When the offense did manage to move against Hannibal's physical defense, it was thanks to Fulton's short to intermediate passing game, resulting in almost 13 yards per completion.

Hornets head coach Pat Kelley, like many in his line of work, prefers when his offense takes what the defense offers. Fulton will be looking to capitalize on that chance - if available - when the Hornets take the short I-70 trip to Boonville tonight (kickoff at 7) for an NCMC matchup against the Pirates.
