Hornets work overtime, make way to title game

In just his second game at the helm and with four minutes of extra basketball in front of his team, Fulton head coach Ryan Shaw hoped percentages would be in the Hornets' favor.

"In overtime I think I saw a statistic in college basketball that the team that scores first wins about 70 percent of the time, because, then, they (opponent) are still fighting to come back," Shaw said.

Fulton, particularly sophomore guard Ricky Dawson, did score first and often as well. Dawson was responsible for five of the Hornets' 12 points in overtime, helping No. 2 seed Fulton hold off No. 3 Clopton 55-49 in the semifinals of the Montgomery County Invitational on Thursday night.

The Hornets will play the winner of Thursday night's late semifinal between top-seeded Mexico and No. 5 New Haven for the tournament title at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
