Tebbetts dinners continue to support community building

There are very few local residents to be found in their homes here on the final Friday of each month.

Instead, many of them can be spotted at the regular Community Dinner at the Tebbetts Community Hall, an event designed by Emily Eikermann to help pay for the building's upkeep.

"We started about a year ago to raise enough money to keep the community center open," said Gary Eikermann, who collects donations given by hungry supporters each month as they show up for supper. "We clear about $400 at each event."

According to Bill Huffmaster, that money - supplemented by the $5,000-$7,000 raised each year at the annual Tebbetts Community Picnic - goes a long way toward the $11,000-per-year upkeep of the community building.

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
