Victory Fellowship Church volunteers to package food destined for Haiti

Volunteers from the community are invited to help Victory Fellowship Church package 20,000 meals to send to impoverished communities in Haiti.

VFW missions coordinator Kent Glover said the simple meals were bought with funds raised from the church's first annual Hopefest event in July, which featured a motorcycle parade, food, a silent auction and more.

Glover helped develop the idea for Hopefest after working on Haiti for 15 years and seeing firsthand the need for nutritious meals in the poor country.

"It's freeze dried vegetables and rice and a vitamin mixture they can boil. It's pretty basic, but it's really well received over there," said Glover. "We go to these poor villages and they're so happy to get it."

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
