What started as something to keep her in shape for the spring soccer season is now Jenny McCarty's main focus. For McCarty, a Class 3 state cross country championship is the objective.
The Fulton senior runner has qualified for the state meet four consecutive years. McCarty will have her last shot at the race's top prize at 9 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City.
McCarty - described by head coach George Yates as quirky and funny but fiercely competitive - is simple in her goals for this weekend and even more so in her feelings on the subject.
"It'd be exciting to win," McCarty said after Tuesday's practice.
