After suffering a stroke, Margie Adrian's life changed about a year ago.
Among many of the things that changed was her mobility. Margie now mostly relies on a wheelchair to get around, which made the home she shares with husband Mike difficult just to enter and leave.
"We're in a single wide out here in Hams Prairie, and they way they did it is they put it really high, higher than normal," said Mike Adrian. "It's at least five foot off the ground.. we couldn't afford to (build a ramp) on our own."
Thanks to the Services for Independent Living's (SIL) Ramp Up project, the Adrians don't have to worry any longer.
The group that provides advocacy and services for elderly and disabled people has launched the project to build 15 wheelchair ramps Nov. 3 in an effort to raise awareness to the need of ramps. In addition to Adrian's ramp, seven will be built in Boone, five in Audrain and two in Montgomery counties.
