HARRISBURG - The South Callaway Bulldogs baseball team continues to make a strong push to reach the state playoffs.
Senior starter Hunter Leeper tossed a three-hit shutout and junior right fielder Bradley Smart drove in a pair of runs Wednesday night as No. 4 seed South Callaway ousted top-seeded Eugene 3-0 in the Class 2, District 6 semifinals.
The victory was the fourth in a row for the Bulldogs (16-5), who previously defeated Eugene 14-7 on May 8 in Mokane. South Callaway opened district play with a 10-0 romp over defending Class 2 state champion New Bloomfield - the tournament's fifth seed - last Saturday.
The Bulldogs will play for the District 6 title at 6 tonight against the winner of Wednesday night's late semifinal between Linn and Harrisburg. Results from that game were not available at press time.
