Conservative rally set Saturday near Holts Summit

"Woodstock for Patriots' attracts national leaders

This weekend conservative Americans from around the nation will gather on a farm in Callaway County near Holts Summit for a Rally for Common Sense featuring numerous nationally known speakers, including two former Republican presidential candidates Herman Cain and Alan Keyes.

Cain is the featured speaker and is expected to discuss his 9-9-9 tax reform plan. He was a Republican candidate for president earlier this year before deciding to drop out.

Dr. Keyes is an American conservative activist, author and former U.S. diplomat. A graduate of Harvard University, Keyes began his diplomatic career in the U.S. Foreign Service in 1979 at the United States consulate in Bombay, India and later at the American embassy in Zimbabwe. He was a Republican candidate for president in 1996 and 2000.

Promoters say an estimated 2,000 or more will attend the Callaway County event, which has been billed as the "Woodstock for Patriots." Vendors will dispense food at the family event that bans alcohol.

Many will bring campers and stay during the weekend but the main event will be on Saturday and a church service is planned on Sunday.

People are asked to bring their lawn chairs and blankets, sun shades and Frisbees to the rally.

There is an adjacent campsite.

Tickets for $10 can be purchased online at rallyforcommonsense.org/tickets or available at the event for $15. The RV camping ticket is $20 and a chicken dinner is $7.

Numerous activities are planned for youngsters and any politician running for office will be allowed to speak at a forum but are asked not to distribute campaign material.

Historical re-enactors will be at the event along with Pro-Stock drag racer Cale Aronson and his Mustang.

On Friday night Rev. C.L Bryant is scheduled to preview his documentary film, "Runaway Slave." The film's heroes are black conservatives who are speaking out so that all Americans can truly be "free at last."
