New location offers local Farmers Market more exposure

Visitors to Memorial Park the last few weeks have noticed something missing, and it wasn't just material cleaned out by renovation crews. The Fulton Farmers Market has made the move to the parking lot in front of Sutherland's on Business 54.

Market president Joan Schwede said they had been talking about making the move to the Fulton Commons area for a while at their annual reorganization meetings in February, and finalized it this spring.

"Other than exposure, there was really no reason we left the park," said Schwede. "We were promised construction wouldn't have any affect (on business,) but we felt it would be better for the market to move out there where people would have better access to us.

The market, which opens from 3:30-6 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, opened May 2 this year. Though it's still early to say for sure, Schwede said that the change has been a positive one and the Fulton Commons ownership change has not been an issue for their arrangement.
