Lucas, shorthanded Wilcats clip Hornets

The New Bloomfield Wildcats roster was scratched up. Two players were sick; two had injured hands; two were ineligible.

That, unfortunately, left the Wildcats - the defending Class 2 state champions - and head coach Brandon Talbot with 10 available players against the Fulton Hornet on Thursday night.

"You only need nine," Talbot said with a chuckle. "And we used all 10 of them."

Senior pitcher Skylar Lucas - starting in a spring baseball game for the first time in his prep career - battled seven innings, threw 107 pitches and made it all stick for shorthanded New Bloomfield as it outlasted Fulton 3-2 at FHS Field.
