Officers responded to a robbery at the store at approximately 10:54 p.m.

According to reports given at the scene, a masked suspect - believed, based on video surveillance, to be a while male in his 30s - attempted to rob the store, when a customer intervened.

"The customer said something to the would-be robber, and (the robber) decided it was not in his best interest to rob the store," said Lt. Andre Cook, head of detectives with the FPD. "He took some money that was in the hand of the customer and left."

According to a press release, no one was injured in the brief scuffle, and Cook said there was no indication the suspect was armed.

"There was no firearm visible, nor was there any implied threat of a gun," Cook said.

As to the actions of the customer which prompted the "would-be robber" to leave, Cook said he would not "encourage any bystander to take any action that might affect their personal safety or the safety of others."

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident, or the identity of the suspect, is encouraged to contact the Fulton Police Department at (573) 592-3100, or to make an anonymous tip to Callaway County Crime Stoppers at (573) 592-2474."
